“A silent, almost secret, majestic stride based on the adoption of organic and non-organic elements belonging to the world, as well as on the exploration of the material and immaterial limits defining their outline, nurtures the creative path of Mateusz Choróbski […]” – extract from the essay by Pier Paolo Pancotto (Rome, 2019)
„High Windows” is a solo exhibition consisting of newly finished sculptures, objects and site-specific installations by Mateusz Choróbski, as well as artist’s first individual presentation at the gallery.
Mateusz Choróbski’s sculptural language is developed through the process of experimentation with architectural elements of the given space, found objects, construction materials and those of everyday use such as glass, steel, copper. In his works Choróbski’s collaging different materials together in order to constitute a new form that appears peculiar, but intentionally constructed and arranged. The function and sense of chosen components is always clearly implied yet dismantled. Its structure consistently diverges, switches or breaks up abruptly resulting in distorted shifts in scale or content. The new selection of sculptural works and site-specific interventions amplifies artist’s interests in particular materials, its temperamental structure, proportions allowing another opportunity for experimentation to be examined.
