Wojciech Bąkowski (b. 1979 in Poznań) lives and works in Warsaw. Bąkowski presents two works of charcoal and pencil on paper, ‘A visit to a room that is no longer there,’ 2021 and ‘Hallway Light,’ 2020. Bąkowski depicts isolated, interior spaces of the home, charged with surreal and dream-like apparitions. In his work, the disordered state of the mind projects into and meshes with the mundane spaces where bodies linger. (Presented by Stereo, Warsaw & Bureau, New York)
Elene Chantladze (b.1946, Supsa, Georgia) lives and works in Tskaltubo, Georgia. Her recent solo exhibitions include Fierman, New York (2022); Modern Art, London (2021); LC Queisser, Tbilisi (2020); Gallery Nectar, Tbilisi (2018). Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions at Ermes Ermes, Rome (2022); Lismore Castle Arts, (2022); Croy Nielsen, Vienna (2022); ADZ Gallery, Lisbon (2021); Conceptual Fine Arts, Milan (2021); Gallery Nectar, Tbilisi (2015); Ausstellungsraum Klingental, Basel (2015). Anders Dickson (b. 1988) lives and works between Holland and France. Anders Dickson’s multifaceted practice invites intimate encounters with an obscure, weird mirror of the ubiquitous world. Themes ranging from spirituality, memory, and ‘high strangeness’ are coloured by traces of Americana as the artist implements them into his work. Hallucinatory paintings bleed into space in the form of sculptural objects, photography and video, assembled in immersive installations. (Presented by Wschód, Warsaw)
Vivienne Griffin (b. 1975 in Dublin) lives and works in London. Griffin contributes two new ink drawings, one a baroque confession box from a church in Palermo, the other a light- filled, tiled shower. Both works depict spaces of solitude, self-reflection and cleansing. One is airy, geometric and light, seen from inside while the other is impressively decorated and seen from outside, conjuring a dark, onerous interior. (Presented by Bureau, New York).
Tomasz Kręcicki (b. in 1990 in Kraków, Poland) lives and works in Kraków. In his paintings, Kręcicki often refers to cinematic framing techniques, but also adopts cinematic solutions, for example, in the lighting of the frame. His works repeat, for example, the fundamentally expressionistic situation of a shape (body or object) emerging from darkness. This type of treatment is used by the artist as a setting for mundane representations taken from everyday life, which are literally shown in a ‘different light’. (Presented by Stereo, Warsaw).
Mikołaj Moskal (b. 1985 in Kraków, Poland) lives and works in Kraków. Moskal’s main medium is graphic art, mainly distemper on paper. He uses a limited palette, creating smooth, texture-free surfaces, always with a pared-down and closed composition He pays particular attention to the characteristics of the materials employed (the crudeness and roughness of paper as one example) and the aspect of sensual and emotional experience. Moskal exhibited at Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw; Wschód, Warsaw; Kayokoyuki, Tokyo; Sabot, Cluj-Napoca; Rupert Vilnus. (Presented by Wschód, Warsaw).
Anastasia Pavlou (b. 1993, Athens, Greece) is a painter based between Athens and Basel. At ECHO, she is presenting three recent works on paper from a series that will also be included in the Regionale 23 at Kunsthalle Basel, opening November 26. This follows Pavlou’s participation in the The Same River Twice, curated by Margot Thornton and Natalie Bell, at the Benaki Museum in Athens (2019), where she was the youngest participating artist. She is due to complete her MFA at the FHNW HGK Institut Kunst Gender Natur in Basel, CH in 2023 and received her BFA from the Athens School of Fine Arts in Athens, GR in 2018. A large body of her work is included in the DESTE collection, Greece. (Presented by Hot Wheels Athens).
