Essay: Ewa Borysiewicz

Karolina Bielawska’s paintings – renderings of micro – and macrocosm – may simultaneously resemble anatomical cross-sections or a landscape from bird’s-eye view. If, however, we look at her works as a continuously expanding system of communication, then the parts of speech in the artist’s visual language – the demonstratives, rank, and naming words – are revealed as form, space, and emotion. The grammar underpinning this system, endowing its individual elements with meaning, is a relationship. As in any language, its purpose is to foster the exchange of thoughts and the urge to channel ideas nesting in the mind-body.
